Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Neal Avirett and I am proud to say that I am the new pastor of Spring Glen United Methodist Church. I am committed to building each of you up in Christian love. There’s nothing I want more than to grow and strengthen your faith in Jesus Christ. My hope is that you will discover more than the Christian religion here, but a life-changing relationship through God’s Word and the Holy Spirit in our worship, small groups, and impact ministries.
When I was ten years old, I found church boring and impersonal. I grew up feeling God was distant, and unknowable. I was suspicious of religious people. It wasn’t until I saw a family friend live like Jesus was alive, that I gave God permission speak to my heart and change my life.
Since surrendering my sin-sick self, I continue to grow through a living faith in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. When I look back, I can now see how God was reaching out to me over the years through family, relationships, life circumstances, and yes, my childhood church.
Every human being is created in the image of God, and God desires relationship with us. Our bent towards sin has marred His image and robbed us of the True Life we can only find with God. This is why God sent His Son Jesus Christ.
When we respond positively to God’s grace, accept Christ’s crucifixion as the end of sin’s reign over us, and receive the power of His resurrection in us, we embark on a new journey as a child of God. Now with the Holy Spirit, we can live the life God graciously promised us in Holy Scripture:
“Jesus declared, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” – John 3:3 NIV
God is leading all of us to a place of surrender to His greater purposes; His rule and reign in our relationships, in serving others, that all of us might witness to the saving love of God at work in our lives. God is transforming the world one life and family at a time, beginning with you and me. I look forward to getting to know you and your story, and growing and serving Jesus Christ together.
